Abstract

This study attempts to indicate the current position of Turkish economic history
within the changing conjuncture of Turkish historiography. In this context,
the author summarizes, the history of economic history in a global perspective,
and then brings the issue to Turkish economic history. Here, the author discusses
the beginning and the leading academics of economic history in Turkey,
the different motives of various groups of scholars for studying economic history
and analyzes the current position of economic history in Turkey. This article,
following a chronological approach, also reviews the related studies with
a critical standpoint. Finally, it focuses on the main problems in the field and
proposes some suggestions.
