Abstract

Istanbul Water Collection (İstanbul Su Külliyatı) which is essentially a collection of historic data on almost all affairs related to water in the city, is a transcribed facsimile of two different register series. The first one is the Mâ-i Lezîz Defterleri kept among the Eyüp Qadi Records as a separate series, and the other is the Vakıf Su Defterleri kept in the Ministery of Water (Su Nezareti). The Collection which is also available on the internet, gives the historians the opportunity to conduct research on water-related issues in Istanbul in a four-hundred-year span of time. These record series would be quite helpful in shedding light on an hitherto untouched aspect of the urban, municipal and administrative history of Istanbul.
