Abstract

Abstract

While social media use is increasing day by day, uncontrolled social media use significantly impairs the functionality of individuals. For this reason, it is thought that the level of conscious awareness is important to ensure controlled use of social media. In this context, the aim of the research was to investigate the relationship between conscious awareness and social media usage level. The research conducted for this purpose was conducted with a relational design. Demographic Form, Conscious Awareness Scale and Social Media Addiction Scale were applied in the research. While data collection tools were applied to 446 university students in the research. Among the students who answered the data collection tools, 2 students with a Z score that was not between ±3 were removed from the data set, and 444 students participated in the research. Participants were selected by convenience sampling method. As a result of the research, while men's level of mindfulness was higher, a positive correlation was determined between mindfulness and social media addiction. This result shows that increasing conscious awareness has a preventive effect on addiction.
