Abstract
Kahramanmaraş province which hosted many civilizations in history, has formed its own culture and social identity by being influenced by the life styles and social phenomena of these civilizations. The people of the region, who own their values as a cultural heritage, have transferred their feelings and thoughts to various handicrafts throughout history and continue to transfer them today. Maraş File Nakışı, which is one of the handicrafts applied intensively in Kahramanmaraş province, differs from the embroidery made in other provinces with its production technique and features specific to the region. Having an important place in folk culture, Maraş File Nakışı has been transferred from generation to generation and has been registered as a geographical product by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office in 2018. Maraş File Nakışı appreciated by the people of the region in bridal dowry, clothes and accessories, is the subject of the study. It is thought that the study is important in terms of the continuity of cultural history and its transfer to the future. In this direction, interviews have been held with people who made Maraş File Nakışı in Kahramanmaraş. In the interviews, the photographs of the products with Maraş File Nakışı have been taken and the communications with the people who applied this embroidery have been recorded on audio and video devices. As a result of semi-structured interviews, the audio files recorded on the tape recorder have been translated into text using the speech analysis technique and directly transferred to the study. The obtained information and interviews have been summarized in the first part of the study to explain the technique and production stages of Maraş File Nakışı. In the second part of the study, the clothes obtained from the private collections, in which Maraş File Nakışı Embroidery is used as an embroidery detail, were examined in terms of embroidery details and design features. Clothing designs were created inspired by these clothes. The designs, whose artistic and technical drawings were completed, were transferred to the study firstly by examining the clothes and then in the order of the design sheet. This sequence was followed in each design. In the results of working; ıt has been emphasized that Maraş File Nakışı, which is a labor-intensive and laborious process and is usually applied to home textile products, will give an aesthetic appearance to clothing designs.
