Child Rights Education from the Perspective of New Sociology of Childhood

Abstract

In this study, children's rights education is theoretically evaluated in the context of the new sociology of childhood. International documents identify the right to education as one of the fundamental human rights. In the 1980s and 1990s, when the new sociology of childhood emerged in response to developmental psychology and traditional socialization theories, many experts held that the sociology of childhood and children's rights were two complementary fields. Looking at the sociology of childhood from the perspective of children's rights, it can be argued that the way the sociology of childhood deals with childhood and the child plays an important role due to the criticism of the prevailing ideas and the proposal of an alternative perspective. The first of the prominent views in terms of an alternative perspective is the view that childhood is not a universal form and is considered under social, political, historical and moral aspects. This view has made a significant contribution to the discussion of rights in the political and social context in terms of sociological analysis and criticism. The second important view of the sociology of childhood is that childhood is considered as an active and creative social factor in an environment that surrounds and includes it. Child rights education should be provided in a structure that contributes to the development of the child as an active individual in the context of the new sociology of childhood.

Yeni Çocukluk Sosyolojisi Açısından Çocuk Hakları Eğitimi

Abstract

Bu çalışmada çocuk hakları eğitimi yeni çocukluk sosyolojisi bağlamında kuramsal olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Eğitim hakkının temel insan haklarından biri olduğu uluslararası belgelerde dile getirilmiştir. Yeni çocukluk sosyolojisinin gelişim psikolojisi ve geleneksel sosyalizasyon teorilerine karşıt tepki olarak ortaya çıktığı 1980 ve 1990’lı yıllarda, çocukluk sosyolojisi ve çocuk haklarının birbirini tamamlayan iki alan olduğu birçok uzman tarafından ileri sürülmüştür. Çocuk hakları perspektifinden çocukluk sosyolojisi okuması yapıldığında; çocukluk sosyolojisinin çocukluk ve çocuğu ele alış biçiminin başat fikirlerin eleştirisi ve alternatif perspektif önerisi sebebiyle önemli rolü olduğu söylenebilir. Alternatif perspektif açısından öne çıkan görüşlerden ilki çocukluğun evrensel bir form olmadığına ve sosyal, politik, tarihsel ve ahlak açısından konumlandığına dair görüştür. Bu görüş sosyolojik analiz ve eleştiri açısından hakların politik ve toplumsal bağlam içerisinde tartışılmasına önemli katkı sağlamıştır. Çocukluk sosyolojisinin ikinci önemli görüşü ise çocukluğun kendisini çevreleyen ve kuşatan bir çevrede aktif ve yaratıcı sosyal faktörler olarak ele alınmasıdır. Çocuk hakları eğitiminin de yeni çocukluk sosyolojisi bağlamında çocuğun etkin bir birey olarak gelişimine katkı veren bir yapıda olması gerekmektedir.
