Türkiye’de Ailelerin Fiziksel Ceza Uygulamalarına Bakışı: Karşılaştırmalı İnceleme

Abstract

Amaç: Çocuk aile ilişkisi, ebeveynlik becerisinin çocuğun davranışlarına yansıması ile ilişkilendirilmektedir. Çocukta fiziksel ceza uygulamalarında görülen uluslararası varyasyonlar ahlaki gerekçelere dayandırılabilmektedir. Çalışmada çocuğa yönelik fiziksel ceza uygulamalarının sıklığı ile ailelerin fiziksel cezaya bakış açısının fiziksel ceza ve diğer ceza uygulamaları ile ilişkisi ortaya konmak amaçlanmaktadır.Gereç ve Yöntemler: Ankara’da referans bir devlet hastanesi ile referans bir üniversite hastanesi olmak üzere toplam 502 ebeveyn ile görüşme yapılmıştır. Fiziksel ceza uygulamaları, bakış açısı, normlar ve tutumlar sorulmuştur. Çalışmada örnek seçilmemiş, belirlenen zaman diliminde çalışmaya katılmayı kabul eden kişilerle yüz yüze veri toplama tekniği kullanılarak görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın gücü 76 olarak hesaplanmıştır. İstatistiksel analizler SPSS 21.0 İstatistik Paket Programı kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Ki-kare ve frekans dağılımları ortalama (standart sapma) şeklinde sunulmuştur. Çalışmada anlamlılık değeri p < 0.05 kabul edilmiştir.Bulgular: Üniversite hastanesine başvuran ebeveynlerin %52.2’si; devlet hastanesine başvuranların ise %55.1’i çocuklarına fiziksel şiddet uyguladığını belirtmiştir. Ailenin bilinçsizliğinin, öğrenim düzeyinin ve kültürel yapısının fiziksel ceza uygulamaları ile ilişkili olduğu saptanmıştır (p<0.001). Ailenin psikolojik durumu, gelenek/görenekleri ile sigara, alkol ya da madde bağımlılığı fiziksel ceza uygulamada önemli özelliklerdir (p<0.05).Sonuç: Çocuğa yönelik fiziksel ceza uygulamaları sıklığının her iki hastaneye başvuran ebeveynlerde de yadsınamayacak düzeyde olduğu saptanmıştır. Araştırma yapılan örnekler arasında fiziksel cezaya bakış açısı arasında fark olması ailelerin özellikleri ile ilişkili bulunmuştur.

A Comparative Study The Family Point of View for Corporal Punishment in Turkey

Abstract

Objective: The child-parent relationship is associated with parenting behavior. The international variation in corporal punishment (CP) may be attributable to cultural differences in the acceptance of moral justifications. The aim of this study was to investigate the rate of corporal punishment and to determine the relationship between the parents’ point of view regarding CP and their punishment practices. Material and Methods: A referee state hospital and a referee university hospital in Ankara district were chosen to conduct face-to-face interviews with 502 parents. CP practices, perspectives, norms and attitudes were asked. A sample was not chosen for the study and parents accepting to be involved were administered the questionnaire. The power of the study was calculated as 0.76. Chi-square tests and means were calculated using SPSS 21.0 and a p value of 0.05 was accepted as statistically significant.Results: The rates of CP practice were 52.2% at the university and 55.1% at the government hospital. Lack of information, the education level and the cultural status of the family were related to CP practices (p<0.001). The psychological condition, traditions and customs, together with cigarette, alcohol and substance use at the family level were other factors related to CP practices.conclusion: Parental use of CP was at high levels in those attending either hospital. The CP practice differences between the sample groups were related to family characteristics
