Beyin Omurilik Sıvısında Polimeraz Zincir Reaksiyonu İle Tanı Alan Konjenital Toksoplazmozisli Bir Yenidoğan Olgusu

Abstract

Konjenital toksoplazmozis gebelikte geçirilen akut enfeksiyonun fetusa geçmesiyle oluşan nadir bir enfeksiyondur. Hastalık, yenidoğanlarda serolojik olarak saptanan hafif formdan, koryoretinit, menenjit, hidrosefali ve intrakraniyal kalsifikasyonlar gösteren ağır forma kadar geniş bir spektrum içinde kendini gösterebilir. Bu makalede, prenatal ultrasonografide lateral ventrikülde genişleme saptanan ancak postnatal geç dönemde menenjitle ortaya çıkan, serolojik testler negatif olmasına rağmen beyin omurilik sıvısı polimeraz zincir reaksiyonu testi ile tanı konulan fatal seyirli konjenital toksoplazmozisli bir olgu sunulmaktadır.

A Newborn with Congenital Toxoplasmosis Diagnosed by Cerebrospinal Fluid Polymerase Chain Reaction

Abstract

Congenital toxoplasmosis is a rare infection transmitted to the fetus from an acutely infected mother during the pregnancy. In neonates, the disease has a broad spectrum ranging from a mild form that can only be serologically detected to a severe form that presents with chorioretinitis, meningitis, hydrocephalus, and intracranial calcifications. In this article, we report a fatal case of congenital toxoplasmosis that presented with meningitis at the late postnatal period. Although prenatal ultrasonography showed dilatation of lateral ventricles, the serological tests were negative during the postnatal period and the patient was diagnosed to have toxoplasmosis with the cerebrospinal fluid polymerase chain reaction
