Ektopik Lingual Tiroid: Farklı Klinik Bulgu ile Başvuran İki Olgu

Year 2017, Volume: 11 Issue: 3, 212 - 214, 01.08.2017

Abstract

Ectopic Lingual Thyroid: Two Cases Presenting with Different

Year 2017, Volume: 11 Issue: 3, 212 - 214, 01.08.2017

Abstract

Ectopic thyroid tissue is the result of abnormal embryologic development/migration of the thyroid gland and is most commonly located in a single location, this being the lingual area. Its occurrence in children is rare. Diagnosis is mainly based on clinical examination and imaging. Clinical symptoms usually seen in patients may include dysphagia, dysphonia, sore throat, occasional bleeding and upper airway obstruction though most patients remain asymptomatic. Here, we presented two ectopic lingual thyroid cases with one being symptomatic and the other one asymptomatic and both suffering from subclinical hypothyroidism.Treatment modalities employed in lingual thyroid depends on factors such as the general condition of patient, thyroid gland size, and laboratory and imaging results
