Amaç: Toplumumuzda sigara ve alkol kullanımı artarken kullanma yaşı giderek düşmekte ve özellikle adölesan dönemde ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bu çalışma ile Kırıkkale il merkezi ilköğretim ikinci kısım (6.,7.,8., sınıf) ve lise öğrencilerinde sigara ve/veya alkol kullanım sıklığı ve etkileyen faktörlerin saptanması amaçlanmıştır.Gereç ve Yöntemler: Bu kesitsel araştırmaya Kırıkkale ilinde, ilköğretim ve liselerde okuyan 500 öğrenci alındı. Öğrencilerin sosyodemografik özellikleri ve sigara ve alkol alışkanlıklarını sorgulayan anketler birebir görüşme ile dolduruldu.Bulgular: Araştırmaya alınan öğrencilerin 500 öğrencinin %50’si erkek olup yaş ortalaması 14.42+1.72 yıldı. Öğrencilerin %6.2’sinin sigara ve %6’sının alkol kullandığı saptandı. Hem sigara hem de alkol kullanımı erkek öğrencilerde kızlara göre daha fazlaydı. Sigara kullanan öğrencilerin %61.3’ü 17 yaş ve üzerinde iken alkol kullananların %50’si 14-16 yaş grubundaydı. Sigara ve alkol kullanımı ekonomik durumu iyi olan çocuklarda daha fazla idi (%70.9, %66.7). Anne ve babası 8 yıl altında eğitim alanlarda hem sigara, hem de alkol kullanımı daha fazlaydı. Ancak bu farklar istatistiksel olarak anlamlı değildi (p>0.05).Sonuç: İlköğretim ve lise döneminde öğrencilerde sigara ve alkol kullanımı önemli bir problemdir. Kullanım sıklığının artmasını engelleyebilmek için öğrenci ve ailelerine eğitimler verilerek bilinçlendirilmesi gerekmektedir.
Objective: The use of tobacco and alcohol has increased, especially during adolescence, and the starting age has decreased in our society. The aim of the study was to evaluate the frequency of smoking and alcohol use and to determine the influencing factors.Material and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 500 primary education and high school students were evaluated. Sociodemographic characteristics and the smoking and drinking habits of students were determined through interviews.results: The mean age of study group was 14.42 +1.72 years and 50%were male. Tobacco and alcohol use rates were 6.2%and 6%of the students respectively. Both use of alcohol and smoking was more frequent in boys than in girls. 61.3%of the students who used tobacco were over 17 years old and 50%of the students who used alcohol were aged 14-16 years. Smoking and alcohol use was more frequent in children with better economic conditions. The use of both tobacco and alcohol was more frequent among children whose parents had received education for less than 8 years. However, these differences were not statistically significant.conclusion: Smoking and alcohol use is a significant problem among elementary and high school students. Students and their families should be provided training in order to prevent the increase in the use

Manuscripts submitted to the Turkish Journal of Pediatric Disease will go through a double-blind peer-review process. Each submission will be reviewed by at least two external, independent peer reviewers who are experts in the field, in order to ensure an unbiased evaluation process. The editorial board will invite an external and independent editor to manage the evaluation processes of manuscripts submitted by editors or by the editorial board members of the journal. The Editor in Chief is the final authority in the decision-making process for all submissions. Articles accepted for publication in the Turkish Journal of Pediatrics are put in the order of publication, with at least 7 articles in each issue, taking into account the acceptance dates. If the articles sent to the reviewers for evaluation are assessed as a senior for publication by the reviewers, the section editor and the editor considering all aspects (originality, high scientific quality and citation potential), it receives publication priority in addition to the articles assigned for the next issue.
