Iron deficiency is a common nutritional disorder worldwide and in our country, rarely associated with extreme thrombocytosis. It can also change in laboratory values such as low hemoglobin, low mean corpuscular volume (MCV). We describe here a case of extreme thrombocytosis in a healthy 4.5 year-old boy. He had reactive thrombocytosis due to iron defiency anemia. We ruled out other causes of anemia such as hemolysis, infection, absorption problems. We did not screen for malignancy due to rapid response to iron treatment.
With this case report, we wanted to focus on the relationship between iron deficiency anemia and thrombocytosis.
