2023 Kahramanmaraş Merkezli Depremlerin BİST İnşaat Endeksi Üzerindeki Etkisi: Bir Olay Analizi

Abstract

Bu çalışmada 6 Şubat 2023 Kahramanmaraş merkezli iki büyük depremin Borsa İstanbul İnşaat Endeksi’nde işlem gören 11 inşaat şirketinin kısa vadeli hisse senedi getirileri üzerindeki etkileri incelenmiştir. Olay çalışması yöntemiyle –15, +15 günlük olay penceresinde günlük ortalama anormal getiriler (OAG) ve kümülatif anormal getiriler (KAG) hesaplanmış; bulguların istatistiksel geçerliliği bağımsız örneklemler t-testi ile sınanmıştır. Analiz sonuçları, olay gününde ve takip eden ilk iki işlem gününde anlamlı biçimde pozitif anormal getiriler sergilerken, üçüncü günden itibaren bu etkinin istatistiksel anlamlılığını yitirdiğini göstermektedir. Bu anlamda çalışma BIST İnşaat Endeksi’ndeki 11 şirketin –15/+15 günlük anormal getirilerini inceleyen ilk sektör-spesifik araştırma olmaktadır. Elde edilen veriler, depremin kısa vadede olumlu fiyatlama tepkisi uyandırdığını ve etkilerin birkaç gün içinde sönümlendiğini ortaya koymaktadır.

The Impact of the 2023 Kahramanmaraş-Centered Earthquakes on the BIST Construction Index: An Event Study

Abstract

In this study, we examine the short-term effects of the two major earthquakes that struck Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023, on the stock returns of eleven construction companies in the Borsa İstanbul Construction Index. Using an event study approach, daily average abnormal returns (AAR) and cumulative abnormal returns (CAR) were computed over a –15/+15 trading-day window, and their statistical significance was evaluated via independent samples t-tests. Results show significant positive abnormal returns on the event day and the following two trading days, with the effect losing statistical significance from the third day onward. This is the first sector-specific analysis of these firms’ –15/+15-day abnormal returns, revealing a transient positive pricing reaction that dissipated within days.
