ON THE CHARACTERICS OF FAIRY TALES OF THE GAGAUZ OF GREECE / ОБ ОСОБЕННОСТЯХ СКАЗОЧНОГО ФОЛЬКЛОРА ГАГАУЗОВ ГРЕЦИИ

Abstract

Fairy tales from the Gagauz of Greece were not the object of research until now. The textual basis for this article is three fairy tales that were recorded by the author during a field trip to Greece in 2004. The study identifies Bulgarian and Turkish elements showing the various ethnic and cultural and linguistic influences on the folklore of Gagauz Turks in Greece. The article concludes, however, that the Turkish elements in the folklore texts are adapted by the Christian Gagauz in accordance with their religious affiliation (eg, the use of the image of ‘God the Father’, the mention of the ritual of baptism and the choosing of godparents, etc.) .
