INFLUENCE OF THE NEIGHBOURING LANGUAGES ON THE SYNTAX OF THE GAGAUZ LANGUAGE

Abstract

The most important aspect that distinguishes the Gagauzian language, which is spoken in the region of Gagauzia in the south of the Republic of Moldavia, from the other Turkic languages within the group of Oghuz is its syntax. The syntax of Gagauzian has striking and peculiar syntactic structures. The influence of Russian on the texts that have been written and/or translated since 1904 is somewhat obvious in every aspect of the language. The influence of one language on another is generally seen in the words of the language and it is seldom seen in the morphology and the syntax of the languages. In this study, we will examine in what ways foreign syntactic structures, which have transformed the structure of Gagauzian Turkish from the General Turkish, influenced Gagauzian and also example sentences to be given will be contrasted with the sentence structures of Russian and Turkish spoken in Turkey
