Abstract
Khalaji is a Turkic language spoken in the central region of Iran. This language was
discovered by German Turkologist Doerfer in the late 1960s. According to Doerfer's findings,
Khalaji is an old Turkic language in terms of its phonics features and vocabulary. It includes
the features of Old Turkic and Altaic languages.
This language has been on the verge of losing the number of speakers under the influence of
Persian and Azerbaijani Turkish due to its location. Thus, Khalaji, whose intergenerational
transmission decreases, is among the endangered languages.
For this reason, a compilation was made from this language with a field study conducted in
the Khalaji region in 2016.
In this paper, the phonics, morph and vocabulary features of Khalaji, which is taken as an
individual group as a language in Turkic languages categorization, will be examined based on
the data obtained during the compilation. These features are an important criterion for
indicating the old features of Khalaji.
