Evaluation of Cultural Heritage in Terms of Tourism: Taşköprü County Sample
Abstract
Cultural heritage is precious cultural assets that societies have created with both nature and other cultures as well as in their own inner dynamism from past to present, and they have conveyed until today. In cultural heritage, there are nonmaterial items as well as material items. These precious cultural attractions, the most striking elements with their original features reflected by the societies to the outside world, are touristic richness that the visitiors who are curious about different cultures, visit with interest and admiration, and obtain memorable memories. The relevant cultural heritage items can be evaluated in the context of cultural tourism today. Taşköprü County of Kastamonu Province is one of the regions with deep historical ties and where many civilizations live and leave unforgettable traces. In this context, there are many cultural heritages that can be considered in the context of cultural tourism in the city. As a matter of fact, the county has the samples of historical bridge (Taşköprü), ancient city ruins (Pompeiopolis), historical mosques, historical tombs, historical castles, mansions and other civil architecture. In addition to these, there are also cultural attractions of this area, such as local games and folkloric events, festivals, weddings and entertainments, clothes, handicrafts and meals (garlic and kebab (meat cooked in underground pit oven)). In order to develop sustainable tourism in the county of Taşköprü, which has such a rich and interesting culture, it has a great importance to acquire these rich cultural heritage items for tourism. In this context, it is necessary to improve tourist infrastructure facilities, increase transportation facilities for access to tourist attractions and improve accommodation activities, focus on branding and effective promotional activities. Thus, we can prepare the basis for the better development of the Taşköprü County in terms of sustainable tourism types, especially cultural tourism, and we can contribute to give the due importance for the existence of the culture properties that we can entrust to future generations.
