Examination of Prospective Mathematics Teachers’ Mathematical Well-Being

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the mathematical well-being of prospective mathematics teachers. Case design, one of the qualitative research designs, was adopted in the study. The participants of the study consisted of 67 prospective elementary mathematics teachers studying in the elementary mathematics teaching programme of a state university. Data were collected using an interview form. Deductive and inductive analysis methods were adopted to analyze the data. According to the findings of the study, it was determined that the factors affecting prospective teachers' mathematical well-being were the themes of relationships, meaning, engagement, positive emotions, cognition, accomplishment and perseverance according to the frequency of responses. When the most common categories in each theme were examined, it was seen that the categories of teacher support in the theme of relationships, daily life relationship in the theme of meaning, pedagogical knowledge in the theme of engagement, enjoyable/enjoyable/fun in the theme of positive emotions, learning the proof in the theme of cognition, solving the questions correctly in the theme of accomplishment and stability in the theme of perseverance were found.

Matematik Öğretmeni Adaylarının Matematiksel İyi Oluşlarının İncelenmesi

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, matematik öğretmeni adaylarının matematiksel iyi oluşlarını incelemektir. Araştırmada nitel araştırma desenlerinden durum deseni benimsenmiştir. Araştırmanın katılımcılarını bir devlet üniversitesinin ilköğretim matematik öğretmenliği programında öğrenim gören 67 ilköğretim matematik öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Veriler görüşme formu kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde tümdengelimsel ve tümevarımsal analiz yöntemi benimsenmiştir. Araştırmanın bulgularına bakıldığında öğretmen adaylarının matematiksel iyi oluşlarına etki eden faktörlerin verilen cevap sıklığına göre ilişkiler, anlam, katılım, pozitif duygular, biliş, başarı ve azim temaları olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Her bir temada en fazla yer alan kategorilere bakıldığında ise ilişkiler temasında öğretmen desteği, anlam temasında günlük yaşam ilişkisi, katılım temasında pedagojik bilgi, pozitif duygular temasında zevkli/keyifli/eğlenceli, biliş temasında ispatını öğrenmek, başarı temasında soruları doğru çözme ve azim temasında istikrar kategorilerinin yer aldığı görülmüştür.
