An Education Program Model to Teach Basic Practice of Medicine: Introduction to Clinical Practices

Abstract

Basic medical skills and attitudes that should be acquired at the end of undergraduate medical education are defined as universal standarts. Education programs which begin before clinical years, learner centered, target problem solving, integrated, community based, interdisciplinary, aimed at skill teaching in a systematic manner are accepted to be effective in teaching basic practice of medicine. In this article, a program that is developed to integrate the “science” and “art” sides of medicine appropriately to the essential principles described previously and applied in Marmara University Medical School since 2000 with the name of Introduction to Clinical Skills Program (ICP) is presented. ICP is an original multidisciplinary program that lasts for 3 years and continues for 26 weeks in each year. Its main objective is to acquire medical students who obtain behaviors and attitudes to provide medical care to the patients and proxies in a humanistic, holistic and professional manner. Because of this, it is applied in small groups. Main elements of the program are; communication skills, clinical skills laboratory activities, student researches, human in medicine, primary care and out-patient clinics experiences.

TEMEL HEKİMLİK UYGULAMALARININ ÖĞRETİLMESİ İÇİN BİR PROGRAM MODELİ: KLİNİK UYGULAMALARA GİRİŞ

Abstract

Tıp eğitiminin sonunda edinilmesi gereken temel beceri ve tutumlar evrensel standartlar olarak tanımlanmıştır. Klinik öncesi dönemde başlayan, eğitilen merkezli, problem çözmeye yönelik, entegre, topluma dayalı, disiplinler arası, sistematik bir program çerçevesinde beceri kazandırmaya yönelik olan eğitim programları temel hekimlik uygulamalarının edindirilmesi için etkili bir yöntem olarak kabul edilmektedir. Bu yazıda, tıp eğitiminin “bilim” ve “sanat” yanları olarak anılan parçalarının entegrasyonunu gerçekleştirmek üzere yukarıda sayılan temel prensiplere uygun olarak gelistirilen ve Marmara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesinde 2000 yılından beri Klinik Uygulamaya Giriş (KUG) programı adıyla yürütülmekte olan program tanıtılmaktadır. KUG, üç yıl boyunca süren ve her yıl yaklaşık 26 hafta devam eden multidisipliner ve özgün bir programdır. Temel hedefi tıp öğrencilerinin, kişilere, hastalara ve yakınlarına insancıl, bütüncül ve profesyonel bir biçimde tıp hizmeti sunma tutum ve davranışı edinmesidir. Bu nedenle küçük grup çalışmalarıyla yürütülür. 3letisim becerileri, klinik beceri laboratuarı çalışmaları, öğrenci araştırmaları, tıpta insan, saha ve poliklinik deneyimi KUG’un temel bileşenlerini oluşturmaktadır.
