Metaphors Put Forward By Medical Faculty Grade I, II And III Students Of Pamukkale University Concerning The Concept “Doctor”

Abstract

Aim of the study: The present study aims to explore medical faculty students' perceptions regarding the concept “doctor” through metaphors and to evaluate and classify commonly used metaphors in terms of common objectives and characteristics. Method: Grade I, II and III students of medical faculty were asked to write about metaphors regarding the concept “doctor”. Results: The results of the questionnaire show that there are 74 metaphors used by the students and the metaphors are classified under five categories after the evaluation. Discussion: The results reveal that most of the metaphors used by medical faculty students concerns basic tasks of the doctor, the intensity of their professional lives and their personal characteristics expected by their patients.

PAMUKKALE ÜNİVERSİTESİ TIP FAKÜLTESİ DÖNEM I, II VE III. SINIF ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN DOKTOR KAVRAMINA İLİŞKİN İLERİ SÜRDÜKLERİ METAFORLAR

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmada tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinin doktor kavramına ilişkin algılarını metaforlar aracılığı ile ortaya çıkarmak, üretilen metaforları ortak amaç ve özelliklerine göre gruplar altında değerlendirmek amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve yöntem: Tıp fakültesi Dönem I, II ve III. sınıf öğrencilerinden doktor kavramına ilişkin metaforlarını yazmaları istenmiştir. Bulgular: Anket değerlendirmeleri sonucunda 74 adet ortak metafor üretilmiş ve bu metaforların değerlendirilmesi sonucunda metaforlar 5 kategori altında sınıflandırılmıştır. Sonuç: Doktor adaylarının ürettikleri metaforların doktorun temel görevleri, meslek hayatının yoruculuğu ve insan olarak doktordan hasta gözüyle beklenen kişisel özelliklerin üzerinde yoğunlaştığı gözlenmiştir.
