Constructing Electives in Medical Curricula: Example of Gazi Medical School

Abstract

Configuring a part of the medical curricula as an elective, supports the students planning their careers in the future by providing in-depth study in the particular area and also working environment. In this study it is aimed to share the steps that we followed to develop elective clerkship and internship program in a medical school, and the lessons we obtained. This study was carried out between November 2010- May 2011. The members of Program Development and Evaluation Board of the Faculty (PDEB) examined the data sources from our country, in order to establish electives. A report was prepared by PDEB members of the faculty as a result of examination of the data sources. At the time of 2011- 2012 educational semesters we began to impose electives. As a result of data sources, a total of 15 electives for semester 5 and 6 weeks for electives for semester 6 were constructed.

SEÇMELİ STAJLARIN OLUŞTURULMASI: GAZİ TIP ÖRNEĞİ

Abstract

Tıp fakültelerinin müfredatlarının bir bölümünün seçmeli olarak yapılandırılması, öğrenciye daha derin uygulama ve çalışma ortamı sağlamakta ve gelecek kariyerlerini planlamaya da destek olmaktadır. Bu çalışmada amaç bir tıp fakültesinde seçmeli staj oluştururken izlenecek basamakları ve ortaya çıkan ders programını paylaşmaktır. Bu çalışma Kasım 2010-Mayıs 2011 tarihleri arasında yapılmıştır. Tıp fakültesinin Program Geliştirme ve Değerlendirme Kurulu (PGDK) üyeleri, seçmeli stajların oluşturulması amacıyla ülkemizdeki ve fakültemizdeki veri kaynaklarını incelemişlerdir. Veri kaynaklarının incelenmesi sonucunda fakültenin PGDK üyeleri bir rapor hazırlamışlardır. 2011-2012 eğitim dönemimde 5. ve 6. Sınıf öğrencileri için Seçmeli Staj uygulamasına başlamıştır. İncelenen veri kaynakları sonucunda Dönem 5’de toplam 15 adet staj, dönem 6’da toplam 6 hafta, seçmeli staj olarak yapılandırılmıştır.
