Usage of “Illness, State and Symptom Based Learning Guide” by Fourth Year Medical Students at Hacettepe University

Abstract

Based on the knowledge that evaluation is a basic step of training and of getting feedback from target groups, this study was designed to assess the extent of the usage of the “Illness, State and Symptom Based Learning Guide (ISSBLG)” by fourth year medical students at Hacettepe University and also to document their thoughts about this guide. Two hundred medical students participated the study (participation rate: 78.1 %). A questionnaire of 14 items was applied. Of these students, 48.1 % were following the medical school curriculum conducted in English and 51.9 % were being taught in Turkish. Forty-five point five percent of the students were males, and 54.7 % were females. The ratio of students who stated that they had used the ISSBLG was 35.7 %. General Surgery was found to be the clinical rotation in which the guide was used most frequently. Of the students who had used the guide, 83.5 % reported a guidance by the consultant to use the guide during the rotation. Those (29.9 %) who reported that they had not used the guide stated they could not give any particular reason for their not benefiting from the guide. Almost one out of three students (28.5 %) stated that they had not been been guided to use ISSBLG. One of the major aims of this study was to evaluate the guide and obtain information on items which required revision. At present, the Department of Medical Education and Informatics is working on a revised text.

Hacettepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Dönem IV Öğrencilerinin “Hastalık, Durum ve Semptoma Dayalı Öğrenme Rehberi”ni Kullanma Durumları

Abstract

Bu çalışma, Hacettepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Dönem IV öğrencilerinin “Hastalık, Durum ve Semptoma Dayalı Öğrenme Rehberi (HDSÖR)”ni kullanma durumları ve bu rehber ile ilgili görüşlerinin saptanması amacıyla planlanmıştır. Çalışmaya 274 dönem IV öğrencisinin 214’ü katılmıştır. On dört sorudan oluşan anket formu gözlem altında anket yöntemi ile uygulanmıştır. Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin % 48.1’i İngilizce Tıpta; % 51.9’u ise Türkçe Tıpta okuduklarını ifade etmişlerdir. Katılımcıların % 45.3’ü erkek, % 54.7’si kadındır. Yaşları 21-26 arasında değişmekte olup grubun % 54.5’ini 22 yaşındaki öğrenciler oluşturmuştur. Öğrencilerin % 35.2’si rehberi kullandıklarını ifade etmiştir. Rehberin en çok kullanıldığı staj ise cerrahi stajı olarak ifade edilmiştir. Rehberi okumuş olan 67 öğrencinin 56’sı “öğretim üyesinin yönlendirmesi” ile rehberi okuduklarını belirtmişlerdir. Rehberi kullanmadığını belirten öğrencilerin % 29.9’u “rehberi neden kullanmadığımı bilmiyorum” yanıtını vermiştir. Yaklaşık her üç öğrenciden birisi (% 28.5) rehberi kullanmak için hiç yönlendirilmediklerini ifade etmişlerdir. Bu araştırmanın önemli bir sonucu da rehberin değerlendirilmesi ve kullanımını artırmak için gerekli düzenlemelerin yapılmasına katkı olmuştur. Tıp Eğitimi ve Bilişimi Anabilim Dalı bu konuda gerekli çalışmaları yapmaktadır.
