Öz
Optical Birghteners are a special class of fluorescent dyestuffs. They absord ultra-violet radiant energy ( which is always present in daylight, and re-emit the energiy as blue light. Eliminating the yellow cast of the original colth and increasing the amount of light emitted they improve the dree of whiteness. They differ in this repcest, from the other bleaching or whintening agents. This study is concerned with the market situationproperties and applications of optical birghteners. Experimental studies have been carried out to determine the optimum concentrations of some stilbene based-birghteners when applied onto cotton Light fastness of dilute solutions and optically brightened samples has also been expIained.Effect of commercial detergents has been examined.
