Determination of Sailors’ Requirements for a Functional Sailing Garment Design

Abstract

Sailing is an active sports type so sailing garments are expected to show high performance and some functional properties. In the literature, there is not enough information with sufficient quality and quantity about sailing garments. As a result, in this study, it was aimed to determine the requirements of sailors related to their garments to design a functional sailing garment. Within the context of this research, a survey was conducted to 150 professional sailors from Turkey. According to survey results; information such as demographics of sailors, harsh sailing conditions, expectations from a functional sailing garment, care and in-use properties of sailing garments were compiled. Overall, it was concluded that sailors mainly need a functional sailing garment that enhances safety via conducting the sailor coordinates to a security center and that can detect falling situation of sailors in case they fall overboard.

Fonksiyonel Bir Yelken Giysisi Tasarımı için Sporcu Gereksinimlerinin Belirlenmesi

Abstract

Yelkencilik aktif bir spor dalı olup, yelken giysilerinin çeşitli fonksiyonel ve performans özelliklerini göstermesi gerekmektedir. Literatürde bu konuda yeterli nicelik ve nitelikte bilgi bulunmadığından; bu çalışmada yelkencilerin giysi gereksinimleri belirlenerek, fonksiyonel bir yelken giysisi geliştirilmesi hedeflenmiştir. Çalışmada Türkiye’nin farklı bölgelerinden toplam 150 profesyonel yelkenciye bir anket çalışması uygulanmıştır. Yelkencilerin demografik bilgileri, spor esnasında karşılaştıkları zorlu durumlar, elektronik ekipmanlı giysi beklentileri, giysi kullanım ve bakım alışkanlıkları gibi giysi tasarım aşamasında kullanılabilecek bilgiler derlenmiştir. Yapılan değerlendirme sonucunda, yelkencilerin güvenliklerini artırmak üzere koordinatlarını bir merkeze aktaran ve düşme tespiti yapan akıllı bir yelken giysisi tasarımına en fazla ihtiyaç duydukları belirlenmiştir.
