Medicolegal importance of toxicological pathologies of the central nervous system
Abstract
Introduction: Toxicological diseases of the central nervous system display various morphological and clinical findings. Within this scope, deaths due to CO intoxications are seen with considerable frequency in our country and in the world, as well. The aim of our study is to review the causes, morphological features, and the clinical outcomes of these morphological changes of the most frequent pathologies of the central nervous system. Results: CO and methanol intoxications are the most considered toxicological diseases of the central nervous system. Furthermore, ethylene glycole, lead, arsenic, mercury, and talium intoxications lead to clinical and morphological changes of the central and peripheric nervous system, as well. Conclusion: It is well known that various neuro-physiological changes occur in the central nervous system of survivers of toxications. Therefore, in legal autopsy applications, even in traumatic deaths, considering the intoxication stories of the cases, detailed macroscopical and microscopical assessment of the brain remains very important
