This thesis addresses military officers’ adjustment to civilian life post-retirement and attempts to reveal how officers adapt through the events that defined the conditions of their professional life. The starting point for these events is accepted as the provisions in the legal regulations that have been prepared with respect to the will of the state’s constituency. The effects from the military habitus that has formed within the legally determined military sphere regarding military officers’ adjustment to civilian life post-retirement forms the topic of this study. The traces of military identity and character formed under the umbrella of the military mentality and of the mutual ties with the military arena, culture, and habitus are observed in this context. The study’s data have been obtained using the Enriched Life Scale, whose Turkish adaptation study is also being performed. The scale is a 5-point Likert-type scale consisting of 39 items and five dimensions and has been applied to 277 people. This study benefits from the programs SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 22.0 for analyzing the data. Confirmatory factor analysis has been used within the scope of the validity studies for the scale, and the methods of item-total correlations and Cronbach’s alpha have been used within the scope of the reliability study. Cronbach’s alpha for the overall Enriched Life Scale has been determined as 0.97 and as 0.94, 0.93, 0.89, 0.88, and 0.87 for the respective sub-scales. The item-total correlations for all items on the scale have been detected to be above .30 (ranging from 0.49 to 0.74). The retired officers who participated in the research answered “I agree” for enriched life (4.05 ± 0.59), genuine relationships (4.14 ± 0.66), sense of purpose (4.10 ± 0.66), engaged citizenship (3.83 ± 0.79), mental health (4.08 ± 0.67), and physical health (4.09 ± 0.71). The scores from the Enriched Life Scale and its sub-dimensions were determined not to show significant differences with respect to the retired officers’ active duty corps (p > 0.05), the branch of service to which they belonged (p > 0.05), or rank at retirement (p > 0.05); significant differences were determined for their scores from the sub-dimensions of sense of purpose (χ22 = 8.03, p < 0.05) and engaged citizenship (χ22 = 8.46, p < 0.05) and for the Enriched Life Scale scores (χ22 = 6.45, p < 0.05) with respect to their education/training circuit.
