The Effect of Breastfeeding and Infant Care Training on the Knowledge Level and Self-Confidence of Primiparous Mothers

Abstract

Aim: The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of training and counseling delivered by maternal counselors (special branch nurses) on mothers' knowledge levels and self-confidence during the prenatal and postpartum periods. Material and Methods: This pre-test post-test quasi-experimental study was conducted with 73 primiparous mothers between December 2020 and March 2021. The data were collected with the "Breastfeeding Process and Baby Care Information Form" and "Pharis Self-Confidence Scale (PSCS)". The mothers got preliminary breastfeeding and newborn care training from their mother counselors during pregnancy. Following birth, received the same detailed instruction. Data were collected during the pregnancy period of the mothers and one week after the mothers gave birth. Results: It was found that the mothers' post-training knowledge mean score (x̄=30.93±2.40) was higher than their pre-training knowledge mean score (x̄=21.58±5.40). It was determined that there was a statistically significant and positive relationship between the knowledge scores of the mothers before and after the training (r=0.267, p<0.05), and there was a statistically significant and positive relationship between PSCS and knowledge scores (r=0.278, p<0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that the training given before and after the birth increased the knowledge level and self-confidence of the mothers.

Emzirme ve Bebek Bakımı Eğitiminin Primipar Annelerin Bilgi Düzeylerine ve Öz Güvenlerine Etkisi

Abstract

Amaç: Doğum öncesi ve doğum sonrası dönemde anne danışmanları (özel dal hemşiresi) tarafından verilen eğitim ve danışmanlık hizmetinin annelerin bilgi düzeylerine ve öz güvenlerine etkisini değerlendirmektir. Gereç ve Yöntem: Ön-test son test deseninde yarı deneysel çalışma, Aralık 2020-Mart 2021 tarihleri arasında 73 primipar anne ile yapılmıştır. Veriler “Emzirme Süreci ve Bebek Bakımı Bilgi Formu” ve “Pharis Özgüven Ölçeği (PÖÖ)” ile toplanmıştır. Anneler gebelik döneminde anne danışmanları tarafından emzirme ve bebek bakımı konusunda bir ön eğitim almışlardır. Annelere doğum sonrasında aynı eğitim detaylı olarak verilmiştir. Veriler annelerin gebelik döneminde ve anneler doğum yaptıktan bir hafta sonra toplanmıştır. Bulgular: Annelerin eğitim sonrası bilgi düzeyi puan ortalamasının (x̄=30.93±2.40), eğitim öncesi bilgi düzeyi puan ortalamasına göre (x̄=21.58±5.40) daha yüksek olduğu, annelerin eğitim öncesi ve eğitim sonrası bilgi puanları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı ve pozitif yönlü bir ilişki olduğu (r=0.267, p<0.05) ve Pharis Özgüven Ölçeği arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı ve pozitif yönlü bir ilişki olduğu belirlenmiştir (r=0.278, p<0.05). Sonuç: Doğum öncesi ve doğum sonrası verilen eğitimin annelerin bilgi düzeyini ve öz güvenlerini arttırdığı belirlenmiştir.
