Evaluation of Visual Relationships of Recently Built Clock Towers with Historical Clock Towers by Using Three-Dimensional Modeling with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Abstract

In this study, the visual and architectural relationships between modern and historical clock towers in Türkiye were examined using three-dimensional (3D) modeling techniques based on images acquired by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). High-resolution UAV imagery was processed through photogrammetric software to generate 3D models, enabling comparative analyses of the structures’ form, material use, ornamentation, and design characteristics. The findings reveal that modern clock towers are inspired by their historical predecessors, yet they diverge notably under the influence of contemporary architectural approaches. The study provides a comprehensive assessment of UAV-based 3D modeling in cultural heritage documentation and offers an original contribution to understanding the continuity–transformation relationship in architectural design.
