Determination of Surface Brightness Inhomogeneities of YY CrB Binary System by Doppler Imaging

Abstract

In this study, the aim is to obtain the surface brightness distribution maps of the components of YY CrB binary star system, which exhibits the O’Connell effect in its light curve, using mid-resolution (R∼15000) spectra obtained with the T80 Prof. Dr. Berahitdin Albayrak Telescope and its spectrograph at Ankara University Kreiken Observatory. In this context, the spectra of the system were converted into time-dependent velocity profiles using the LSD (Least Squares Deconvolution) technique, and the surface brightness distribution maps of both components were obtained using the DoTS code, which is based on Doppler Imaging and relies on 3-temperature models to reveal the presence of hot/cold spots. In the literature, explanations for the O’Connell effect observed in the system’s light curves have been insufficient to determine whether the spots are hot or cold, as well as to characterize their properties. In this regard, the spot characteristics of the components of YY CrB system have been revealed through Doppler imaging technique.

YY CrB Çift Yıldız Sisteminin Doppler Görüntüleme ile Yüzey Parlaklık Dağılım Anormalliğinin Belirlenmesi

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, ışık eğrisinde O’Connell etkisi görülen YY CrB çift yıldız sisteminin, Ankara Üniversitesi Kreiken Rasathanesi’nde bulunan T80 Prof. Dr. Berahitdin Albayrak Teleskobu ve ona bağlı tayfçeker ile elde edilen orta çözünürlüklü (R∼15000) tayfları kullanılarak Doppler görüntüleme tekniği yardımıyla bileşenlerin yüzey parlaklık dağılımı haritalarının elde edilmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Bu kapsamda, sisteme ilişkin tayflar, LSD (En Küçük Kareler Dekonvolüsyonu) tekniği kullanılarak zamana bağlı hız profillerine dönüştürülmüş ve Doppler görüntüleme tekniğini temel alan, sıcak/soğuk leke varlığını ortaya çıkarmaya yönelik 3-sıcaklık modeline dayanan DoTS kodu ile her iki bileşene ait yüzey parlaklık dağılımı haritaları elde edilmiştir. Sistemin ışık eğrilerinde görülen O’Connell etkisini açıklayabilmek için literatürde yapılan çalışmalar sistemdeki lekelerin sıcak ve/veya soğuk leke olup olmadığını ve leke özelliklerini açıklamakta yetersiz kalmıştır. Bu bağlamda, YY CrB sistemi bileşenlerinin leke karakteristiği, Doppler görüntüleme tekniği ile ortaya çıkarılmıştır.
