Investigation of Supernova Remnant 3C 391 in X-ray Wavelengths with the Line Emission Mapper

Abstract

Mixed-morphology supernova remnants (MM SNRs) exhibit a shell structure at radio wavelengths but center-filled emission at X-ray wavelengths. Among the known 300 Galactic SNRs, approximately 40 belong to this category. Several X-ray satellites (e.g., Chandra, Suzaku, and XMM-Newton) have observed MM SNRs and determined their X-ray properties. The X-ray emission of MM SNRs is thermal, providing information on the hot gas content of the remnants. The Line Emission Mapper (LEM), an X-ray probe scheduled for launch in the 2030s, will feature a spectral resolution of 1−2 eV in the 0.2−2.0 keV band. This capability will enable the disentanglement of faint emission lines in MM SNRs from the bright Galactic foreground. In this study, we assess LEM’s capability to detect the elemental lines of MM SNR 3C 391 due to its excellent spectral resolution and large collecting area. We conducted spectral simulations for LEM and presented our initial results.

Line Emission Mapper ile Süpernova Kalıntısı 3C 391'in X-ışın Dalga Boylarında İncelenmesi

Year 2025, Volume: 6 Issue: Special Issue: UAK2024 Proc., 44 - 47, 01.07.2025

Abstract

The Line Emission Mapper (LEM), 2030’larda fırlatılması planlanan, 0.2−2.0 keV bandında 1−2 eV tayfsal çözünürlüğe sahip olacaktır. Bu özellik, MM SNK’lardaki zayıf emisyon çizgilerini parlak Galaktik arka plandan ayırmayı mümkün kılacaktır. Bu çalışmada, LEM’in büyük toplama alanı ve mükemmel tayfsal çözünürlüğü sayesinde MM SNK 3C 391’in element çizgilerini tespit etme yeteneğini araştırdık. LEM için tayfsal simülasyonları yaptık ve ilk sonuçlarımızı sunduk.
