Evaluation of the quality of YouTube videos regarding the All-on-4 dental implant concept

Abstract

Aim: This study aims to evaluate the content and quality of YouTube videos related to the All-on-4 dental implant treatment concept. The All-on-4 concept offers a minimally invasive alternative for rehabilitating fully edentulous arches by utilizing the available bone, placing two axial and two angled implants, and delivering a fixed prosthesis immediately when primary stability is achieved. Given the increasing use of social media, patients and dental professionals often turn to platforms like YouTube for information. However, the accuracy and quality of this information remain unclear. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional analysis of 250 YouTube videos was conducted. After applying exclusion criteria, 62 videos were included for evaluation. Video parameters such as views, likes, comments, and upload dates were recorded. Content quality was assessed using a Total Content Score, based on 15 key topics, and the Video Information and Quality Index (VIQI) for general quality. Additionally, educational value was evaluated using the Global Quality Scale (GQS). Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS software. Results: The average VIQI score was 10.69 ± 3.90, indicating moderate video quality. The average Total Content Score was 6.21 ± 2.89, reflecting a generally low to moderate content quality. The GQS score averaged 2.61 ± 1.12, indicating low overall educational value. Significant positive correlations existed between video popularity (views, likes) and VIQI. Conclusion: Most YouTube videos related to the All-on-4 concept present low to moderate-quality information. This highlights the need for healthcare professionals to ensure reliable and accurate information is available for patients and practitioners on such platforms.

Ethical Statement

The present study was a cross-sectional analysis performed by evaluating the YouTube (YouTube; Google) videos regarding the all-on-4 dental implant treatment concept. Ethics approval was not obtained since the investigation was conducted on publicly available data.
