Structure of tree bark and possibility of utilization

Abstract

In this study, differences between softwood and hardwood have been presented regard to chemical and anatomical properties of the tree bark. Bark that is usually considered as a source of fuel and energy raw material in Turkey has largely chemical using area since it contains polyphenolic substances and more extractive compounds compare to wood. In the study bark using areas have been exhibited such as cork, water purifier, concrete reinforcer, sound and heat insulator. In the use of planting design was examined as mulch due to the structure of cork with a well water-holding capacity. Besides, advantages and disadvantages of as using compost have been evaluated thus the importance of species as using compost was emphasized. Keywords: Bark, Chemical composition, Mulch, Compost
