Modelling of sustainable forest management criteria and indicators for Turkey

Abstract

In this study, it is aimed to state “Turkey National Sustainable Forest Management Criteria and Indicators” by taking into account Turkish forestry and forest resources of the social, economic and ecological condition. For this purpose, a global scale ongoing regional processes and especially the meetings, the studies based on the criteria and indicators development done by international actors are reviewed and the criteria and indicators set that is already used by General of the Forestry Directorate is questioned with the questionnaire. As a result, to monitor, assess and report forest resources which managed sustainably or not, 9 criteria and related 90 indicators are defined at the end of the study. This criteria and indicators put forward at the national level can be used later as the basement in the studies of regional and management level. Also, this criteria and indicators are tools that can be used by the relevant decision makers for more effective and more efficient management of forest resources.
