Abstract

Sürdürülebilir moda yaklaşımının ivme kazanmasıyla birlikte, bu alana yönelik çalışmalar giderek yaygınlaşmaktadır. Konuya ilişkin kavramlar gelişmekte; giysi tasarımında sürdürülebilirlik eğilimleri, farklı yaklaşımlar doğrultusunda çeşitlenerek artış göstermektedir. Bu çerçevede gerçekleştirilen araştırmalar, alana duyulan ilgiyi artırmakta ve merak uyandırmaktadır. Sürdürülebilir moda kapsamında sıfır atık giysi tasarımı alanında öne çıkan yaklaşımlardan biri de ileri dönüşümdür. Kullanım sonrası sıfır atık yöntemi kategorisinde değerlendirilen ileri dönüşüm yaklaşımı; akademisyenler, tasarımcılar ve markalar tarafından benimsenip uygulandıkça hem yöntemsel olarak gelişmekte hem de kullanım alanı genişlemektedir. Giysi tasarımı bağlamında ileri dönüşüm, kaynakların yeniden değerlendirilmesi, yaratıcı potansiyelin ortaya çıkarılması ve özgün tasarım yaklaşımlarının geliştirilmesi açısından önemli katkılar sunmaktadır. Bu alanda yapılan çalışmalar, kullanılan yöntemlerin çeşitlenmesiyle birlikte yeni araştırmalar için de temel oluşturur hâle gelmektedir. İleri dönüşüm temelli giysi tasarımı çalışmalarının içerik ve kapsamının anlaşılması; kullanılan yöntemlerin belirlenmesi, gelecekteki çalışmalarda bu yöntemlerin uygulanabilirliği açısından büyük potansiyel taşımaktadır. Bu doğrultuda çalışmanın amacı, ileri dönüşüm giysi tasarımında kullanılan ve kullanılabilecek yöntemlerin, önerilen sınıflandırmalar aracılığıyla belirlenmesidir. Bu amaçla literatür taraması yöntemi kullanılarak, giysi tasarımı alanında ileri dönüşümün hangi yöntemlerle gerçekleştirildiği analiz edilmiştir. Ayrıca ileri dönüşüm yaklaşımını benimseyen markalar incelenmiş ve bu markaların tasarımları konu bağlamında değerlendirilmiştir. Sonuç olarak, bu çalışma, ileri dönüşüm giysi tasarımında kullanılan farklı tasarım yöntemlerinin tanımlanması açısından önem taşımaktadır. Elde edilen bulgular doğrultusunda, ileri dönüşüm kapsamında giysi tasarımında kullanılan yöntemler öneri sınıflandırmalarla ortaya konulmuştur.

Upcycling Design Methods in Clothing Design

Abstract

With the growing momentum of the sustainable fashion approach, studies in this field have become increasingly widespread. The conceptual framework surrounding sustainability continues to evolve, and trends in sustainable clothing design are diversifying through various approaches. Research conducted within this scope not only increases interest in the field but also draws significant attention. One of the prominent approaches within zero-waste clothing design, which is a part of sustainable fashion, is upcycling. Classified under post-consumer zero-waste methods, the upcycling approach is increasingly adopted by academics, designers, and brands, which in turn contributes to its methodological development and expands its areas of application. In the context of clothing design, upcycling plays a critical role in the reuse of resources, the expression of creative potential, and the development of original design strategies. As the methods employed in this area become more diverse, they also begin to form a foundation for future research. Understanding the content and scope of upcycled clothing design studies, as well as identifying the methods used, holds great potential for informing future work in this field. Accordingly, the aim of this study is to identify the methods currently used or potentially applicable in upcycled clothing design, through proposed classifications found in the literature. To achieve this, a literature review methodology was employed to analyze which methods are utilized in upcycling within the field of clothing design. Furthermore, brands that adopt the upcycling approach were examined, and their designs were evaluated within the context of this study. In conclusion, this study is significant in terms of identifying the different design methods used in upcycled clothing design. Based on the findings, methods applied in upcycled garment design have been systematically classified through proposed typologies.
