Effective containment of the COVID-19 pandemic among migrants and refugee: World Health Organization

Abstract

The ongoing Corona Virus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic continues to advance with each day and it is worth noting that no individual, community, population group or nation is immune to the infection. Migrants and refugees constitute a vulnerable population group and this calls for the urgent need to include migrants and refugees in the action plan made for the containment of the infection and ensure that no compromises are made with regard to their right to attain highest levels of physical & mental health. In conclusion, it is very clear that if we want to overcome the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will be needing a whole-of-community approach, partnerships with various sectors, which essentially includes inclusion of migrants and refugees. The need of the hour is to extend all the prevention and control activities to the vulnerable population groups and ensure that the risk of acquisition or transmission of infection can be minimized.
