Abstract
An early introduction to the library allows for a comfort level, a willingness to ask for assistance, a place in which to seek answers and to learn about the resources and technologies available there or through the library. This ideahas been started in many countries around the world that have this kind of projects to make children interested in books and library. In the United Kingdom, for the first time one of the projects, which is the same idea as in other countries, is to give a bag of books to newborns. The projectpurpose is to give a free bag, in which are some books and literature aimed at babies 012 months and toddlers 1-3 ages . In this study, Bookstart that is run by Booktrust in UK, has been introduced and some suggestions have been expressed for Turkey

Çocukların kütüphane kaynakları ve teknolojileri hakkında bilgi sahibi olmaları ve sorularına kütüphane aracılığı ile yanıt aramaları için gereken bilinç, kütüphaneye erken yaşlarda gelinmesi ile kazandırılmaktadır. Bu düşünceden hareketle dünyada pek çok ülke, çocukların kitaba, kütüphaneye ilgisini çekmek için pek çok proje geliştirmişlerdir. Bunlardan birisi de, ilk kez Birleşik Krallık’ta geliştirilen ve başka ülkelerce de uygulanan, yeni doğmuş bebeklere hediye çanta vermektir. Projenin amacı, bebeklere 0-12 ay ve küçük çocuklara toddlers, 1-3 yaş kitap vb. materyalleri içeren bir çantayı ücretsiz olarak hediye etmektir. Bu çalışmada, Birleşik Krallık’ta Booktrust tarafından yürütülen Bookstart örneği tanıtılmış ve Türkiye için öneriler ifade edilmiştir.
