Anesthetic Considerations for Patients with Down Syndrome: Case Report

Year 2008, Volume: 2 Issue: 3, 402 - 404, 20.11.2008

Abstract

Down syndrome, trisomy 21, is the most prevalent genetic disorder worldwide and affects more than 1 in 1000 live births. Patients with Down syndrome are afflicted with multiple congenital anomalies that affect almost all of their organ systems. Later in life many patients with Down syndrome often require multiple procedures requiring general anesthesia. During preoperative evaluation for anesthesia in the Down patient, it is important to focus attention on the functional conditions of the patient and systems that frequently show anomalies. The risks of anesthesia are increased in these patients. In this report the anesthetic implications of the syndrome are reviewed.

Down Sendromlu Bir Olguda Anestezik Yaklaşımımız

Year 2008, Volume: 2 Issue: 3, 402 - 404, 20.11.2008

Abstract

Down sendromu (Trizomi 21), dünyada en sık rastlanan genetik bozukluktur ve 1000 canlı doğumdan biri etkilenir. Down sendromlu hastaların organ sistemlerinin yaklaşık tümü birçok kon-jenital anomali ile etkilenir. Down sendromlu birçok hasta yaşamlarının ileri dönemlerinde genel anestezi gerektiren çeşitli işlemlere genellikle ihtiyaç duyarlar. Down sendromlu hastaların preo-peratif değerlendirilmesinde, sistemlerde sıklıkla görülen anomaliler ve bu anomalilerin sonucunda oluşan fonksiyonel şartlara dikkat etmek önemlidir. Bu hastalarda anestezi riski artmıştır. Bu sunuda sendroma anestetik yaklaşım gözden geçirilmiştir.
