Abstract

Doğal zenginlikleri, stratejik konumu, nüfusu, ordusu, tarihsel ve kültürel zenginliğiyle Irak, Orta Doğu'daki önemli bir aktördür. Aynı zamanda Irak, günümüzün birçok Orta Doğu devletiyle benzer problemlerle boğuşmaktadır: Yoksulluk, işsizlik, vekalet savaşları, terör saldırıları, siyasal istikrarsızlık, zayıf kurumsallaşma, otoriter yönetimler. Dolayısıyla, Irak'ın güncel tarihini analiz etmek, Orta Doğu'nun güncel sorunlarını anlamaya da yardımcı olacaktır. Bu eserde yazar; ekonomi, siyaset, tarih, kültür, demografik yapı gibi birçok farklı açıdan Irak'ı analiz ederek ülkenin kronik hale gelen problemlerinin derinlerinde yatan sebepleri ele almaktadır.

Book Review: Iraq: Power, Institutions, and Identities

Abstract

Iraq, with its natural resources, strategic location, population, army, historical and cultural richness, is an important actor in the Middle East. At the same time, Iraq struggles with similar problems as many other Middle Eastern states: poverty, unemployment, proxy wars, terrorist attacks, political instability, weak institutionalization, and authoritarian regimes. Therefore, analyzing Iraq's recent history will also help to understand the current issues in the Middle East. In this book, the author analyzes Iraq from various perspectives such as economy, politics, history, culture, and demographic structure, addressing the underlying reasons for the country's chronic problems.
