AESTHETIC AND TECHNICAL EVALUATION OF AI-BASED VISUAL ARTS PRODUCTIONS: A QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS THROUGH SELECTED CASES

Abstract

Today, artificial intelligence technologies are widely used in many fields, thanks to the increase in digital data and the fact that this data has become easily accessible, shareable, and reproducible. In particular, machine learning and deep learning-based applications have made it possible for artificial intelligence to be used effectively not only in technical fields but also in art and design practices. AI-supported visual art productions open up contemporary art to rethinking creative processes, aesthetic approaches, and the artist-technology relationship. This study aims to examine the position of AI-based artistic productions within contemporary art practices using a qualitative approach. Within the scope of the research, selected AI-based visual artworks with different technical infrastructures and production processes were analyzed using the case study method. The findings reveal that AI-based productions do not present a singular artistic approach; rather, they exhibit a multi-layered structure that varies according to algorithmic autonomy, human-machine collaboration, and conceptual guidance. The study aims to offer a critical assessment of the relationship between artificial intelligence and visual art through current examples.

YAPAY ZEKA TABANLI GÖRSEL SANATLAR ÜRETİMLERİNİN ESTETİK VE TEKNİK DEĞERLENDİRMESİ: SEÇİLMİŞ ÖRNEKLER ARACILIĞIYLA NİTELİKSEL BİR ANALİZ

Abstract

Günümüzde yapay zekâ teknolojileri, dijital verilerin artması ve bu verilerin kolayca erişilebilir, paylaşılabilir ve çoğaltılabilir hale gelmesiyle birlikte birçok alanda yaygın olarak kullanılmaktadır. Özellikle makine öğrenimi ve derin öğrenme temelli uygulamalar, yapay zekânın yalnızca teknik alanlarla sınırlı kalmayıp sanat ve tasarım pratiklerinde de etkin bir biçimde kullanılmasını mümkün kılmıştır. Yapay zekâ destekli görsel sanat üretimleri, çağdaş sanatta yaratıcı süreçleri, estetik yaklaşımları ve sanatçı–teknoloji ilişkisini yeniden düşünmeye açmaktadır. Bu çalışma, yapay zekâ temelli sanatsal üretimlerin çağdaş sanat pratikleri içerisindeki konumunu nitel bir yaklaşımla incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma kapsamında, farklı teknik altyapılara ve üretim süreçlerine sahip seçilmiş yapay zekâ tabanlı görsel sanat eserleri örnek olay yöntemiyle analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular, yapay zekâ temelli üretimlerin tekil bir sanatsal yaklaşım sunmadığını; algoritmik özerklik, insan–makine işbirliği ve kavramsal yönlendirme doğrultusunda çeşitlenen çok katmanlı bir yapı sergilediğini ortaya koymaktadır. Çalışma, yapay zekâ ve görsel sanat ilişkisine güncel örnekler üzerinden eleştirel bir değerlendirme sunmayı amaçlamaktadır.
