RELATIONSHIP AMONG EFFICACY, STRATEGY USE AND PROFICIENCY: CASE OF LISTENING IN AN EFL CLASSROOM

Abstract

Among four skills in foreign language learning, listening has been the least researched one, mostly because there are various cognitive and affective factors to consider. This study only focused on strategy use (cognitive) and efficacy beliefs (affective) of the students to investigate the relationship between listening proficiency, efficacy and strategy use of EFL learners. In accordance with quantitative research method, listening efficacy and listening strategy use questionnaires together with a listening comprehension test were used at the outset of a 14-week listening course, which is one of the mainstream courses in the ELT department. The results underline a positive correlation among the three variables.
