The aim of this study was to determine the university instructors’ conceptions of teaching in ELT departments at two universities in Turkey. The data was collected through qualitative research techniques. The participants were four instructors working in two different institutions in Turkey with doctorate degree on the same major from the same university. The analyses of the data collected through interviews and self-report were conducted through discourse analysis and text analysis by the researchers. The results of the study reveal that the type of the institution where the teachers work is not a strict factor shaping the way how the teachers teach and how they define some of the components of teaching. The results also reveal that having the same background of education does not lead to the same approaches and definitions of teaching
