A BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF INTOLERANCE OF UNCERTAINTY STUDIES

Abstract

One of the concepts that attempts to explain individuals’ levels of making sense of uncertainty and intolerance of uncertainty is intolerance to uncertainty. Since uncertainty is one of the most fundamental dynamics of our age, how both organizations and individuals can increase their tolerance for uncertainty or reduce their intolerance to uncertainty is one of the most discussed topics in organizational life. The most valuable resource of organizations is their employees. The concept of intolerance of uncertainty, which refers to how employees make sense of uncertain situations and directly affect risk-taking behavior, is crucial in helping organizations compete sustainably. Therefore, the intolerance of uncertainty is also related to productivity and organizational outcomes. This study aims to evaluate the research conducted between 1953 and 2023 in the fields of Business, Management, and Social Sciences on the subject of intolerance of uncertainty, scanned in the Scopus database, by subjecting them to bibliometric analysis. The study sample consists of 81 articles published in the Scopus database. Python and Vosviewer programs were used for the bibliometric analysis of the obtained data. In addition to descriptive statistics in the light of the data obtained within the scope of the research, Co-occurrence, co-authorship, citation, bibliographic combination, and co-citation features were examined. As a result of the study, intolerance to uncertainty has increased with the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected the world as of the end of 2020. Journals with the most articles on intolerance of uncertainty include “Mindfulness,” “Journal of Contextual Behavioral Science,” “Child Development,” and “Nurse Education in Practice” journals. A total of 226 keywords were used in 81 articles. In the common word analysis applied to articles related to intolerance of uncertainty, the most frequently mentioned words are “intolerance,” “uncertainty,” “anxiety,” “covid-19,” “pandemic,” and “mindfulness.” The USA has the most published researchers on intolerance of uncertainty—81 articles constituting the research sample of 249 authors. While the number of articles with a single author is 11, the number of articles with more than one author is 70. The collaboration index between authors is 3.11. The maximum H-index is 1. The total number of citations is 1113.

BELİRSİZLİĞE TAHAMMÜLSÜZLÜK ÇALIŞMALARI ÜZERİNE BİBLİYOMETRİK BİR ANALİZ

Abstract

Bireylerin belirsizliği anlamlandırma ve belirsizliğe tahammülsüzlük seviyelerinin açıklanmaya çalışıldığı kavramlardan biri belirsizliğe tahmmülsüzlüktür. Belirsizliğin içinde bulunduğumuz çağın en temel dinamiklerinden olması dolayısıyla, gerek organizasyonların gerekse bireylerin belirsizliğe karşı tahammüllerini nasıl arttıracakları veya belirsizliğe tahammülsüzlük seviyelerini nasıl düşürecekleri organizasyonel yaşamın en çok tartışılan konulardan biridir. Organizasyonların en değerli kaynağı çalışanlarıdır. Çalışanların belirsiz durumları anlamlandırma biçimine gönderme yapan ve risk alma davranışını doğrudan etkileyen belirsizliğe tahammülsüzlük kavramı organizasyonların sürdürülebilir rekabet etmeleri noktasında anahtar bir role sahiptir. Dolayısıyla belirsizliğe tahammülsüzlük seviyesi üretkenlik ve organizasyon çıktıları ile de ilişkilidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Scopus veri tabanında taranan belirsizliğe tahammülsüzlük konusundaki İşletme, Yönetim ve Sosyal Bilimler alanlarındaki 1953-2023 yılları arasında yapılmış araştırmaların bibliyometrik analize tabi tutularak değerlendirilmesidir. Çalışmanın örneklemini ise Scopus veri tabanında yayınlanan 81 makale oluşturmaktadır. Elde edilen verilerin bibliyometrik analizi için Python ve Vosviewer programları kullanılmıştır. Araştırma kapsamında elde edilen veriler ışığında tanımlayıcı istatistiklere ilaveten; eş-oluşum, ortak yazarlık, atıf, bibliyografik birleştirme ve ortak atıf özellikleri incelemeye tabi tutulmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda; 2020 yılı sonu itibariyle dünyayı etkisi altına alan Covid-19 pandemisi ile belirsizliğe tahammülsüzlük çalışmalarının arttığı görülmektedir. Belirsizliğe tahammülsüzlük ile ilgili en çok makalenin yer aldığı dergiler; “Mindfulness”, “Journal of Contextual Behavioral Science” ve “Child Development” ve “Nurse Education in Practice” dergileridir. 81 makalede toplam 226 anahtar kelime kullanılmıştır. Belirsizliğe tahammülsüzlük ile ilişkili makalelere uygulanan ortak kelime analizinde en sık geçen kelimeler “intolarence”, “uncertainity”, “anksiyete”, “covid-19”, “pandemi” ve “mindfulness” kelimeleridir. Belirsizliğe tahammülsüzlük konusunda en çok yayın araştırmacıların ülkesi ABD’dir. Araştırma örneklemini oluşturan 81 makale toplam 249 yazar tarafından kaleme alınmıştır. Tek yazarlı makale sayısı 11 iken birden fazla yazarlı makale sayısı 70’dir. Yazarlar arasındaki işbirliği indeksi 3.11’dir. Maximum H-indeksi 1’dir. Toplam atıf sayısı 1113’tür.
