Abstract
Vertigo is only the one type of dizziness and a symptom of illusory movement, not a diagnosis. It arises because of asymmetry in the vestibular system due to damage or dysfunction of the labyrinth, vestibular nerve, or central vestibular structures in the brainstem. Vertigo is a troubling problem for many clinicians because of a large range of diagnosis from benign to immediately a life threatening situation. However, in most cases, central and peripheral etiologies can identify by clinical history, especially combined with examination findings In this review,we discuss the pathophysiology, etiology, clinical approach and treatment of vertigo. Abstract
Vertigo denge bozukluklarının bir alt tipi olup yalancı hareketlerle oluşan bir semptomdur, bir hastalık değildir. Labirent, vestibüler sinir ya da beyindeki santral vestibüler yapılardaki bir hasar ya da disfonksiyon sonucu oluşan vestibüler sistemdeki asimetri sonucunda ortaya çıkar. Vertigo bir çok klinisyen için zor bir semptomdur, çünkü hafiften, hayati tehlike oluşturan bir hastalığın parçası olmaya kadar uzanan geniş bir tanı aralığı vardır. Ancak hastaların çoğunda santral ve periferik vertigo, hikaye ve muayene bulgularının birleştirilmesi ile kolayca tanımlanabilir. Bu derleme ile periferik vertigonun patofizyolojisi, etiyolojisi, vertigolu bir hastaya klinik yaklaşımın nasıl olması gerektiği ve tedavisi tartışılmıştır.
