Belirli şartlar altında kokleadaıı dış kulak yoluna doğru yayılan akustik enerjiye otoakustik emisyon denir ve hassas bir mikrofonla kaydedilebilir. Hu akustik enerjinin koklea dış saç hücrelerinin mıkromekanık aktivitesinden kaynaklandığı tespit edilmiştir. Distorsiyon prodakt otoakustik emisyonlar işitmesi norma! olanların tamamında elde edilebilen bir uyarılmış otoakustik emisyon çeşididir. İki farklı frekansta primer stimulusun simültane olarak kokleaya ulaştırılması ve kokleanın hu uyarıya stimuluslardan farklı frekansta verdiği cevaptır.
