Application of King’s Health Questionnaire in Urology Outpatient Clinic

Year 2011, Volume: 18 Issue: 2, 96 - 105, 01.04.2011

Abstract

Objective: From simple to complex, there is a wide range of problems involving the bladder. One of the most distressing situations for patients is urinary incontinence. A lot of questionnaire studies were conducted to understand this situation which many patients who did not want to explain. We aimed to apply one of the world's most widely administered questionnaires, King 's Health Questionnaire (KHQ), to our patients. Materials and Methods: Between November and December 2010, for a period of one month, 171 female patients applying to urology outpatient clinic for the first time with any complaints, were agreed to fill out KHQ. This survey is mainly composed of 9 questions. We divided the patients into two groups according to the second question which evaluates incontinence effect (the first group with no or mild complaints, the second group with moderate or severe complaints), and comparisons were made accordingly. Statistical analysis was performed by Pearson's chi-square and Student's t-tests, and p<0.05 was considered significant. Results: Excluding the question of personal relationship (p=0.109), significant differences were observed between two groups in terms of all the other questions (p <0.01). Conclusion: We think that, KHQ can be applied to all female patients of any age regardless of their complaints. It is a short and easly understandable questionnaire and patients can fill out it without guidance. Key words: İncontinence; King's Health Questionnaire; Quality of Life.

Üroloji Polikliniğinde King Sağlık Anketi Uygulaması

Year 2011, Volume: 18 Issue: 2, 96 - 105, 01.04.2011
