A Wooden Intraorbital Foreign Body: Case Report

Year 2010, Volume: 17 Issue: 2, 117 - 119, 01.04.2010

Abstract

Although penetrating injuries of the orbital region are not rare, injuries with organic foreign bodies such as wood are still infrequent and despite the improved diagnostic techniques, the diagnosis can still be challenging. In this manuscript, such a case of an 11 years old male patient who was admitted with the complaints of swelling, pain and pussy discharge from his right eye, one week after head injury is presented. Patients with intraorbital wood fragments can present with different signs and symptoms, mainly due to the structural nature of the material. Early surgical removal of the intraorbital foreign bodies is very important to avoid complications and permanent neurological deficit. When compared to metallic foreign bodies, the wood fragment is more susceptible to be broken into pieces. Thus, surgical extraction of these objects should be done meticulously. Key words: Intraorbital Foreign Body, Penetrating Injury, Surgical Treatment

İntraorbital Odun Parçası: Olgu Sunumu

Year 2010, Volume: 17 Issue: 2, 117 - 119, 01.04.2010
