The resistance to fluoroquinolones among the methicillin resistant staphylococci isolated from hospitalized patients

Abstract

Objectives: To determine the resistance to flouroquinolones among the methicillin resistant staphylococcus (MRS) strains. Material and Methods: The susceptibility test for 117 methicillin resistant staphylococcus (MRS) strains isolated from pus, blood, urine and other sterile b ody fluids of hospitalized patients was performed by disk diffusion method. Results: The resistance rates were 62% for levofloxacin, 70% for ciprofloxacin, 76% for norfloxacin and ofloxacin among MRS. Conclusion: These results should be taken into account for the empirical fluoroquinolones treatment. Key words: Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus, Flouroquinolones, Resistance.

Abstract

Amaç: Metisiline dirençli stafilokok (MRS) suşlarının florokinolonlara karşı in vitro direnç durumlarını saptamak. Gereç ve Yöntem: Yatan hastaların irin, kan, idrar ve diğer steril vücut sıvılarından izole edilen toplam 117 MRS suşunun florokinolonlara karşı duyarlıl ık testleri disk diffüzyon yöntemi ile yapılmıştır. Bulgular: MRS'larda levofloksasine %62, siprofloksasine %70, norfloksasin ve ofloksasine %76 oranında direnç saptanmıştır. Sonuç: Florokinolonlara karşı bu kadar yüksek oranda direnç bulunması, ampirik ki nolon tedavisinde gözönüne alınmalıdır. Anahtar kelimeler: Metisilin Dirençli Stafilokok, Florokinolon, Direnç.
