Turkish Adaptation of the Intentions Towards Infidelity Scale: Validity and Reliability Studies

Abstract

The aim of the current study is to adapt the Intentions towards Infidelity Scale developed by Jones, Olderbak ve Figueredo (2011) and to examine the reliability and validity of the scale. The seven item scale was translated into Turkish and was back translated into English. Students and experts evaluated the items. The final version of the scale was administered to 291 (196 female, 95 male) volunteered undergraduates from Faculty of Education, Middle East Technical University. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis regarding the construct validity of the scale supported the single-factor structure of the original scale. Results of concurrent validity studies yielded significant correlations between the scores of Intentions towards Infidelity Scale and the “agreeableness” and “conscientiousness” personality traits and all the six reasons of Infidelity Scale. Findings yielded significant gender difference and showed that the correlation between Intentions towards Infidelity Scale and Social Desirability Scale was not significant. The internal consistency and the test-retest reliability coefficients were computed as .82 and .85, respectively which were also similar to that of original scale. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the Turkish version of Intentions towards Infidelity Scale was a valid and reliable scale to measure the likelihood of engaging in infidelity behaviors of under graduates.

Aldatmaya Yönelik Niyet Ölçeği’nin Türkçe Uyarlaması: Geçerlik ve Güvenirlik Çalışmaları

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı Jones, Olderbak ve Figueredo (2011) tarafından geliştirilen Aldatmaya Yönelik Niyet Ölçeği’ni Türkçe’ye uyarlamak ve ölçeğin geçerlik ve güvenirliğine ilişkin kanıtları incelemektir. Yedi maddelik ölçek Türkçe’ye çevrilmiş ve İngilizce’ye geri çevirisi yapılmıştır. Maddelere ilişkin öğrenci ve uzmanlardan görüş alınmıştır. Elde edilen ölçek Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi’ne devam eden 291 (196 kız, 95 erkek) gönüllü lisans öğrencisine uygulanmıştır. Yapı geçerliğine ilişkin doğrulayıcı faktör analizi sonuçları, ölçeğin orijinal ölçekteki tek boyutlu yapısını doğrulamıştır. Benzer ölçekler geçerliği sonuçları ise, ölçekten elde edilen puanların “uzlaşılabilirlik” ve “öz disiplin” kişilik özellikleri ve 6 farklı aldatma nedenleri ölçümlerinin tümüyle ilişkisinin anlamlı olduğunu göstermiştir. Sonuçlar ayrıca, cinsiyet farkının anlamlı düzeyde olduğunu ve ölçek ile Kişisel Davranış Anketi puanları arasında anlamlı düzeyde bir fark bulunmadığını ortaya çıkarmıştır. Ölçeğin iç tutarlık katsayısı .82, test-tekrar test güvenirlik katsayısı ise .85 olarak bulunmuştur ve orijinal ölçeğinkine benzer katsayılardır. Bu bulgulara dayanılarak, Aldatmaya Yönelik Niyet Ölçeği’nin Türkçe formunun, üniversite öğrencilerinin aldatma davranışı gösterme olasılığını ölçmek amacıyla kullanılabilecek geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
