Defining Sexual Abuse and The Following Procedure
Abstract
The concept of sexual abuse has been a very popular term among mental health professionals and non-professionals. The media covered the term so notoriously that everyone has some idea about this issue. In fact, the history of children sexual traumatization is as old as humankind. Research shows that this problem has been documented in all cultures and social classes, ascertaining that this issue has a universal dimension. Therefore, it needs to be more clearly defined and understood by professionals. The purpose of this literature review is therefore to provide the most current research findings in the area of childhood sexual abuse. First, definition of sexual abuse was discussed with respect to controversies of the defining concepts. Then, recent prevalence and incidence rates in Turkey and other countries are presented. More detailed attention was given to the concerns and problems that had not been dealt with in previous the literature.

Abstract
Son yıllarda çocuklara yönelik olan cinsel istismar konusu gerek çocuklarla çalısan ruh saglıgı profesyonelleri arasında gerekse alan dısında olan herkesin oldukça ilgisini çekmistir. Medyada da bu sorunun oldukça olumsuz bir sekilde aksettirilmesi bu konuda
herkesin bir fikir gelistirmesine yol açmıstır. Arastırmalar bu sorunun tüm kültürlerde ve tüm sosyal sınıflarda görüldügünden bahsetmektedir. Bundan dolayıdır ki bu sorun evrensel bir sorundur ve daha iyi tanımlanması ve anlasılması gerekir. Bu çalısmanın amacı da en son arastırma bulguları ısıgında cinsel istismar konusunu daha derinlemesine incelemek ve bu konuyla ilgili sorunlara ısık tutmaktır. Önce çocuk cinsel istismarı kavramı tartısılmıs ve istismar konusunda önerilen tanımlara yer verilmistir. Daha sonra cinsel istismarın degisik kültürlerdeki ve ülkemizdeki oranlar incelenmistir. Konular tartısılırken genellikle yeni olan bulgulara, kavramlara ve daha önce deginilmeyen sorunlara yer verilmeye çalısılmıstır.
