VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY STUDIES OF THE EMOTIONS MANAGEMENT SKILLS SCALE (EMSS)

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develope a reliable and valid instrument to evaluate university students’ emotions management skills perception. The sample was consisted of 567 university students who attended University of Cukurova, Faculty of Education. Principal component analysis produced a solution six factor. These factors named respectively “Expression of emotions as a verbal”, “Recognizing and accepting emotions”, “Expression of emotions as spontaneously”, “Control of negative body response”, “Coping”,“ Management of anger”. For reliability; The Cronbach alpha coefficient was .83 for overall scale and orderly, for six subscales. 79, .60, 67, .65, .64, .62. Test-re-test reliability coefficient was .81 for three weeks. The results revealed that the scale has content, construct, discriminant and criterion validity.
