SEXUALLY ABUSED PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN’S DİAGNOSİS AND TREATMENT VİA PSYCHODYNAMIC PLAY THERAPY

Abstract

The purpose of this review is to investigate the usage and effectiveness of psychodynamic oriented play therapy on sexually abused preschool children. The five stage psychodynamic play therapy, developed by Hughes and Baker (1990), was offered as the treatment and intervention methods. Those stages are, 1) First interview, 2) Establishing a trust relationship, 3) Play interview, 4) Sharing children reactions, and 5) Surviving, treatment, and termination. Psychodynamic play therapy was integrated with Virginia Axline (1969)’s play therapy methods and also other literature was utilized to support this method and its’ stages. Additionally, testing and assessment procedures of play therapy, the limitation of play therapy, and the problems faced by counselor were reviewed and discussed in lights of the current literature findings.
