The Features of Transgression as Predictors of Forgiveness of Others

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to investigate the contribution of the features of transgression on forgiveness of others. The sample consisted of 376 (196 female, 180 male) university students. The Turkish version of Heartland Forgiveness Scale (Bugay &Demir, 2010) and The Features of Transgression Questionnaire were used to collect the data. In order to test the predictability of the features of transgression, multiple regression and stepwise regression analysis were used. The results revealed that the features of transgression were important in forgiving others. Results of the multiple regression showed that the features of transgression significantly predicted forgiveness of others and accounted for 10% of the variance. Stepwise regression analysis showed that “responsibility”, “the outcomes of transgression” and “transgression whom it was made” were significant predictors of forgiveness of others. The findings were discussed in comparison to those of existing literature.

Hataya İlişkin Özelliklerin Başkalarını Affetmeyi Yordaması

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, hataya ilişkin özelliklerinin başkalarını affetme ile ilişkisini anlamak ve hataya ilişkin özelliklerin başkalarını affetmeyi ne kadar yordadığını görmektir. Araştırmaya, 376 (196 kız, 180 erkek) üniversite öğrencisi katılmıştır. Araştırmada gerekli bilgileri toplamak amacı ile Heartland Affetme Ölçeği’nin Türkçe formu (Bugay ve Demir, 2010) ve bu çalışma için geliştirilen “Hataya İlişkin Özellikleri Değerlendirme Formu” kullanılmıştır. Bağımsız değişkenlerin affetme üzerindeki yordama gücünü görmek amacıyla çoklu regresyon analizi ve adımsal regresyon analizi yapılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda, öğrencilerin büyük bir çoğunluğu hata özelliklerinin affetmeyi çok etkilediğini belirtmiştir. Ayrıca hataya ilişkin özelliklerin üniversite öğrencilerinin başkalarını affetme düzeyinin %10’unu açıkladığı bulunmuştur. Üniversite öğrencilerinin affetme düzeylerini ilk sırada “hatadaki sorumluluk”, ikinci sırada “hatanın yol açtığı sonuçlar” ve son sırada ise “hatanın kimin tarafından yapıldığı”değişkenlerinin anlamlı olarak yordadığı görülmüştür. Sonuçlar ilgili alanyazını ışığında tartışılmıştır.
